Back to the Future

In the last few years the Customer Owned Banking sector has been supporting regional Australia in a campaign to retain bank branches in the bush (see here). We’ve been here before, however. In the mid-1990s Cuscal partnered with the Commonwealth and NSW Governments to help preserve financial services in the bush. This came on the back of the closure of 600 branches in rural areas from 1993-1996.

We are now presenting you with a digitised VHS video of a CreditCare promotional film from 1996 when the program was in full swing. The 8-minute infomercial begins with an overview of the project delivered by Cuscal CEO Vern Harvey. We are then treated to stories of the project in action with new branches of Electricity Credit Union, Peel Valley Credit Union and Orana Credit Union opening in regional towns.
