The Association of Catholic Credit Co-operative Societies (ACCCS) was formed in 1957 from the Young Christian Workers (YCW) group of credit unions. Representatives from four of these credit unions met at 312 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne on 29 October 1957 to consider forming an association. The meeting discussed the benefits of an association such as access to information; establishment of more services, the ability to form more credit unions and improved lobbying potential. Rules were adopted and a board of four directors (one from each credit union) was elected. Some of the achievements of the ACCCS were loan protection insurance, a central bank and uniform subscription fees.

In December 1965 representatives from 25 member credit unions approved a board recommendation 'to work towards the formation of a state association open to all credit societies that are prepared to adopt accepted co-operative principles, including education'. The word 'Catholic' was deleted from the name of the organisation with the permission of Archbishop Simmons. The resulting Victorian Credit Co-Operative Association (VCCA) was registered in October 1966.
