The Southern Credit Co-operative Association was formed in 1981 to represent the views of those Victorian credit unions who were not members of the Victorian Credit Co-operative Association (VCCA). The initiative for its foundation came from the Herald Credit Co-operative and other foundation members included CPS Credit Union Co-operative and CSIRO Co-operative Credit Society. By 1984 there were 13 member credit unions.
