The Illawarra Regional Group of the Association of New South Wales Credit Unions (later renamed the South Coast Regional Group) was formed at a meeting of eight credit unions active in the Illawarra region on 29 November 1982.

The objects of the group were (a) to promote a spirit of co-operation among credit unions and their members (b) to arrange meetings of an educational nature to facilitate the interchange of ideas and information relating to credit union philosophy and operations (c) to provide local support for credit unions and (d) subject to the direction of the board, to promote generally the interests of credit unions within the group area. Membership was available to credit unions with registered offices in the Illawarra region and associate membership was available to those who operated in the region but whose registered office was elsewhere. Although the Association of New South Wales Credit Unions (ANSWCU) was folded into Cuscal in 1992, the South Coast Regional Group kept meeting until at least 1994.
