The Credit Union Association of South Australia was formed on 1 July 1979 from the amalgamation of the Credit Union League of South Australia and the Savings and Loans Societies Association. The amalgamation was a recommendation of a working party that had met in 1978 and early 1979 with the intention of unifying the credit union movement in South Australia. By 1992 the affairs of the association were wound up and transferred to the new national peak body Cuscal.

The role of the association was to:
(a) Engage in political negotiations in relation to the interests of credit unions.
(b) Carry out public relations for the credit union movement in South Australia.
(c) Conduct planning activities for the credit union movement.
(d) Develop policies for education and training of credit union staff and board members.
(e) Collect and interpret statistics.

Our Credit Union Association of South Australia collection includes annual reports, board minutes and papers, correspondence, training material, governance documents, newsletters, photographs and oral history recordings.
