BankWAW is based in the Albury Wodonga region of NSW and Victoria - most fertile ground for customer owned banks. This is evidenced by Albury hosting the famous AICUM (Australian Institute of Credit Union Management) Conferences from 1980-2004.The history of BankWAW is rooted in Wodonga Co-operative Credit Society which formed in 1961 and Wangaratta Credit Co-operative, registered in 1970. WAW Credit Union Co-operative came into existence in 1980 and the name was changed to BankWAW in 2022.

We hold significant BankWAW records including annual reports dating back to 1974, A History of WAW Credit Union Co-operative (2004), their children’s educational book Buck’s Big Adventure (2003), photographs, correspondence, video, strategic plans and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.
