“Your best interest at heart”
Australian Mutuals Archives is pleased to give you the first look at a video from our new batch of digitised VHS videos. This one is a six-minute educational video by NSW Teachers Credit Union (Teachers Mutual Bank) from 1985.
It is unclear just how this video was used as NSW Teachers never relied on an extensive branch network, but it was probably sent around schools with a credit union field officer. The video aims to educate members about their credit union’s Net Pay Deposit service. Along with funky 1980s graphics showing how the service works there are scenes of teachers hard at work juxtaposed with images of the “good life” – i.e. Sydney Harbour boating and luxury cars …
The video also has promotions for Redicard, “Australian Credit Unions” Visa Debit Card, Member Cheque Books, a Bill Paying Service and more.
We will share more of our latest batch of digitised videos in the coming weeks and months. We hope to complete the digitising of our collection of 600 analogue mutual videos from the 1970s-2000s in the next few years. This work couldn’t be done without the support of the customer owned banking community.
