Woolworths Team Bank
GOLD SUPPORTER
Active Mutual

1971 - Current
In February 1971, employees of Safeway – an American-owned supermarket chain – called a meeting in the hope of passing a motion to form a credit union. It passed, and Safeway Employees Credit Co-operative was registered in April of that year. Unlike most other industrial mutuals, it has remained the customer owned bank for the workers (and their families) of Woolworths Supermarkets, who took over Safeway. Originally operating out of Mulgrave, Melbourne, Woolworths Team Bank also has an office/branch in Woolworths’ impressive HQ in Bella Vista, in far North West Sydney.
Our significant collection of Woolworths Team Bank records includes annual reports going back to 1977, member and loan registers, historical objects, AGM minutes, newsletters, photographs and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.
1971 - Registered in Victoria as Safeway Employees Credit Co-operative
1986 - Name changed to Woolworths/Safeway Employees Credit Co-operative
2006 - Name changed to Woolworths Employees Credit Union (WECU)
2020 - Name changed to Woolworths Team Bank
