In October 1992 Five Arnhem Land Communities - Milingimbi, Galiwin'ku, Gapuwiyak, Ramingining and Minjilang - through their retail co-operative, the Arnhem land Progress Association, began working towards the establishment of a credit union to fill the need for the provision of financial services in their community. The formation meeting was held on 23 August 1994 and the first Board was elected at that meeting. Traditional Credit Union (TCU) was incorporated on 5 December 1994. Like all of us, TCU has seen good times and bad but it remains standing strong in the NT, with its head office located in the Darwin suburb of Casuarina.
