Many people are probably unaware, including many of the hundreds of thousands of Teachers Mutual Bank (TMB) members, that TMB began as the Hornsby Teachers Association Credit Union in 1966. Expansion began early when gaining authority from the Department of Education for pay-roll deductions for deposits and repayments was obtained on the condition that membership was made available to all teachers in NSW. Therefore, at the first annual general meeting on 20 September 1967 the members voted to change the name to N.S.W. Teachers Credit Union. Much has changed since then not least becoming a mutual bank in 2012 and creating the merger-based brands UniBank (2016), Firefighters Mutual Bank (2018) and Health Professionals Bank (2021).

1966 - Registered in NSW as Hornsby Teachers Association Credit Union
1967 - Name changed to New South Wales Teachers Credit Union
1977 - Name changed to NSW Teachers Credit Union
2008 – Merged with The TAFE and Community Credit Union
2010 - Announced a co-operative alliance with Victoria Teachers Credit Union, although both remain independent entities.
2010 - Name changed to Teachers Credit Union
2011 - Alliance with Victoria Teachers Credit Union Limited lapsed
2012 - Name changed to Teachers Mutual Bank
2015 - Merged with The University Credit Society (trading as Unicredit) (WA). The bank announced a new brand, UniBank, which would have a separate identity and focus on the tertiary sector.
2021 – Merged with Firefighters & Affiliates Credit Co-op
2021 – Merged with Pulse Credit Union
2026 - Merged with Australian Mutual Bank
