Police Bank began as Police Credit Union No.1 Limited in Sydney in 1964. It was formed by a group of serving Police Officers in a police station located at Clarence Street, Sydney. Initially membership was only available to Officers in the 'No. 1 Division' which included Clarence St, Central and Pyrmont police stations. From such a small beginning it didn’t take long for things to expand as their bond broadened by 1969 and with it a name change to the Police Department Employees' Credit Union. This was shortened to Police Credit Union in 1997. Ever the innovator it was an early mover to mutual banking becoming Police Bank in 2012.

1964 - Registered in NSW as Police Credit Union No.1
1969 - Name changed to The Police Department Employees' Credit Union
By 1984 - Trading name had been changed to Police Credit Union
1997 – Merged with Penrith City Council Employees Credit Union Limited
2009 - Merged with HMC Staff Credit Union Limited (which continued to trade as Customs Credit Union Limited)
2012 - Became a mutual bank called Police Bank Limited (trading as Police Bank)
2018 - Heritage Isle Credit Union merged with Police Bank and changed its name to Bank of Heritage Isle (a division of Police Bank)
