Great Southern Bank is the trading name of Credit Union Australia, an incredibly storied organisation that in its main strand goes back to 1966 although it can trace its roots back a further twenty years. A proposal to establish a credit union for Queensland Postal workers was discussed at a meeting of sixty postal workers in December 1965. The constitution of The Queensland Postal Co-operative Credit Union Ltd was approved and a Board of Management elected at a meeting of 10 February 1966. The first annual general meeting was held on 31 August 1966.

Our large collection of Great Southern Bank records aided in the publishing of For Mutual Good - The Story of CUA (2017). We hold the inaugural Queensland Postal Co-operative Credit Union annual report of 1966 and many of its various strands down to the present day. We also hold board minutes of many of the credit unions that merged into Great Southern Bank, photographs, video, newsletters, correspondence, objects and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.
