Family First Bank is a Lithgow institution. For those outside of NSW, Lithgow is a town of around 11,000 people on the plains just to the west of the Blue Mountains. For a long time a coal mining and steel district, Lithgow is also home to the Lithgow Small Arms Factory where Family First Bank was formed (it is also the hometown of sports commentator and raconteur, ‘Rampaging’ Roy Slaven, partner of HG Nelson). It was the employees of the Small Arms Factory who recognised a collective need for a credit union and registered SAF (Small Arms Factory) Credit Union in 1967. It opened its bond to the surrounding area in the 1970s and changed its name to Lithgow Mutual Credit Union in 1975. It became Family First Credit Union in 1998. It has been Family First Bank since 2021.

On March 1 2026, Family First Bank merged with Beyond Bank.
