In March 1975, the Defence Forces Credit Union Co-operative (Melbourne) was registered during the wave of credit union development that was sweeping Victoria and indeed the rest of Australia at the time. A few years later, they joined forces with their sister credit union at Puckapunyal, located at an Australian Army training facility and base 10 km west of Seymour, in central Victoria. This was a second important step in becoming the Australia wide customer owned bank that is today known as Defence Bank.

We hold a large cache of Defence Bank records and have been pleased to help them put history documents together. Our collection includes annual reports from 1994 onwards, magazine articles and newsclippings, photographs and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.

1981 – Merged with Defence Forces Credit Union Co-operative (Puckapunyal)
1984 - Merged with Defence Credit Union (South Queensland)
1987 – Merged with Defence (ACT) Credit Union
1993 – Merged with AAFCANS Employees Credit Co-operative
1995 - Name changed to Defence Force Credit Union Limited (often knowns as Defcredit)
1996 – Merged with Army Credit Union
2012 - Name changed to Defence Bank
