Australian Unity was formed as the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows, a friendly society, in 1840 and is well known in Australia as a member owned health insurance provider. In 2012, it merged with Big Sky Building Society which formed the backbone of Australian Unity Bank. Before that there was a credit union named Big Sky which was formed by BHP employees in Melbourne in 1971.

We hold all the annual reports and governance documents published online during the Australian Unity era. For the credit union era we hold annual reports as far back as 1979 and we hold the Big Sky Credit Union Constitution written in 2004.

On 24 November 2025 Australian Unity Bank merged with Bank Australia
