The credit union movement in the Australian Capital Territory has always been strong. As government agencies and public services have been fertile grounds for credit union development, this is no surprise. An example can be seen in the success of Beyond Bank, a mutual bank of some significance, which began life as ACOA Co-operative Savings and Loan Society in 1960.

ACT Credit Union Association Co-operative was registered in 1964 as the peak body for ACT credit unions. It ceased operations in 1992 when all state and territory peak body functions were taken over by new national peak body Cuscal.
