Capricornian History

Late last year we were rapt to receive a copy of the new Capricornian History by Betty Cosgrove and Jacqueline Mackay. The fantastic 75-page book was published to coincide with the Capricornians’ transition to operations as the Capricornian Bank. We are especially pleased to see the publication of the book as we assisted co-author Jacqueline Mackay with her research in 2021.

The Capricornian Bank has its roots in the Park Avenue Parish Credit Co-operative Society which formed in 1959 under the guidance of Father John Leahy. The book takes in the formation of Park Avenue Parish Credit Co-operative Society, its merger with North Rockhampton Credit Union in 1981 to form the Credit Union of Capricornia right through to recent developments.

In 1979, the credit union still had only 509 members and managed a mere $414,500 in deposits. Today, the Capricornian Bank manages assets in excess of $400 million and has branches in Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Miriam Vale, Gladstone, Emerald, Springsure and Capella. Capricornian History is a great story and we were happy to help tell the tale.
