“Take Control of Your Finances”

Today we bring you Cuscal TV advertisements from 1995. Not only do they feature cute babies and doggos (marketing magic) but they also provide a history lesson.

Many might recognise the ads which were ubiquitous on the nation’s small screens for a time in the 1990s. From one of our recently digitised VHS tapes, the 5-minute video shows several ads with Cuscal’s universal “Credit Union” logo. It also includes training versions with instructional voice overs advising where Cuscal member credit unions could insert their name and logo in various parts of the video. This was credit union co-operation for the modern era.

Co-operation in the Australian credit union movement on display in the video involved the work of peak body agencies such as the Australian Credit Union Video Network (established 1983) and the Credit Union Supply Centre (established 1962).

The Australian Credit Union Video Network made, produced and distributed educational and promotional films and the Credit Union Supply Centre produced everything from “Credit Union” branded marketing brochures to deposit and withdrawal slips.  Member credit unions could use these as templates or leave as is.
