What Do You Think of the Association? Part 3

Helen McIntyre was truly a pioneer of the Australian credit union movement. She passed away in May last year at the age of 92. As a tribute to her, for historical interest and general entertainment Helen is the latest subject in our What Do You Think of the Association? series.

Helen’s interview is four minutes long and show’s what a sharp mind she had and it appears she didn’t suffer fools. Helen was Secretary Manager of SGE Credit Union (today’s G&C Mutual Bank) for over 30 years. She was the first woman Director of ANSWCU in 1970 and was a proud supporter of the broader co-operative movement being the President of the Co-operative Federation of Australia for at least 5 years.

The What Do You Think of the Association? series results from a VHS tape we digitised which included an ANSWCU video from 1990 which featured an hours’ worth of short interviews with credit union staff and Directors. The interviewees were asked their thoughts on ANSWCU and credit unions more broadly.
