Southern Cross Credit Union began as Tweed BGF Members' Credit Union on 9 August 1966. Initially membership of the credit union was open only to those who held at least one share in the Banana Growers' Federation on the Tweed roll. This was later extended to those on the Brunswick and Richmond District Rolls. It changed its name to Southern Cross Credit Union in 1997 by which time it was a solid presence in the Northern Rivers region of NSW as it remains today.

Our significant collection of Southern Cross Credit Union records includes annual reports from 1971 onwards, early AGM minutes, correspondence, newsletters, news clippings, photographs and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.

1966 - Registered in NSW as Tweed BGF Members Credit Union Limited - NSW [BGF = Banana Growers Federation]
1975 - Name changed to Tweed-Byron Credit Union
1976 – Merged with Lismore Community Credit Union
1997 - Name changed to Southern Cross Credit Union
