The story of The Mac is the story of the evolution of an employee based or industrial credit union into a customer owned bank based in The Macarthur region on the south west outskirts of Sydney. The Mac’s history spans over 50 years and begins with employees of local coal mines in 1971. It was registered as Clutha Employees Credit Union. In 1978 an expanded bond serving the local area required a name change and it became Macarthur Mutual Credit Union. The “Mutual” was dropped from the name in 1995 and since 2013 it has been known officially and affectionately as The Mac. Our collection of The Mac records includes annual reports going back to 1979 and photographs.
