1959 - Current
There was a time when Australia’s customer owned banking movement provided niche services for immigrant communities via their own credit union. These were invariably assisted by state and national credit union peak bodies. The Ukrainian community created long running credit unions, one of which is Dnister Community Credit Co-operative (now trading as Dnister Bank) which began in Melbourne in 1959 and is still operating today.

Our collection of Dnister Bank records includes annual reports from 1982 onwards, magazine articles and contemporary governance documents and reports published online.

1959 - Registered in Victoria as Dnister Ukranian Credit Co-operative
2000 – Merged with Kalyna Ukranian Credit Union
2008 – Merged with Hoverla-Ukrainian Credit Co-operative
2016 - Merged with Latvian Australian Credit Co-operative
2026 - Trading name changed to Dnister Bank
